PHPA/Polyacrylamide

Easily soluble in water, PHPA/Polyacrylamide (Partially Hydrolyzed Polyacrylamide) is a type of co-polymer, which is acknowledged for its thickness increasing properties, optimal viscosity and high flocculability. This polymer is widely used in oil extraction process for its good oil recovery property. This product is used with potassium chloride salt to reduce deposition of solid particles in drilling fluids. The unique composition of PHPA/Polyacrylamide helps in controlling shale hydration and improves viscosity of mud of drilling fluids. Capacity to lower fluid loss, ability to decrease friction rate, anionic nature, low to medium charge density range, affordable price, high water solubility and long storage life are some of its distinctive characteristics.

The partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide works by reducing the fluid mobility through increasing the viscosity or reducing permeability of the oil recovery drive fluid. With this process, the polymer acts as a fluid flow blocking agent. Apart from oilfield application, this polymer is also popularly used in flood areas to restrict water flow.
